White House fails to take information security seriously
By Bill McCann
When I was in the Navy 50 years ago, I had to get an enhanced security clearance because my duties required working with highly classified materials. I cannot recall all the details, but I remember a phone conversation with my father who told me somewhat nervously that a government agent had asked hometown neighbors questions about me.
I explained to him that it was most certainly part of a routine background check for a security clearance that I needed for my job. His response was something like: “They sure take security seriously, don’t they?”
